Purpose
The purpose of the survey was to identify how many patients drove their cars to the surgery and if they had experienced difficulties with parking and accesses Hamble Lane from Manor Crescent. Also to get feedback from the patients re access, parking and the condition of the road surface in Manor crescent
Findings
· Out of the 88 questionnaires returned 73 patients regularly drove to the surgery, 12 did not drive and 3 patients sometimes drove to the surgery.
· Out of the patients who indicated that they drove to the surgery either regularly or occasionally 68 said that they had been unable to get a space in the allocated parking area.
· 37 patients who drove to the surgery said they had regularly been late for their appointments because they were unable to find a parking space
· 62 of those patients had had to resort to parking either on the road outside the homes of residents of Manor Crescent or in another location.
· 30 of those patients had experience conflict with the residents of Manor Crescent.
· From the completed questionnaires 80 patients stated that they had found it difficult accessing Hamble Lane from Manor Crescent because Hamble Lane is very busy and other driver would not give way and visually it was difficult to see on-coming traffic and pedestrians.
· 69 patients indicated the actual condition of the road surface in Manor Crescent had caused them problems either in the car or walking because of its un-even surface and the pot holes.
Comments made by patients
· The road surface is very dangerous
· Better parking facilities are needed
· Bigger surgery needed
· The road surface is very bumpy both for driving and walking
· This is a really good surgery, has the personal touch but the parking is terrible
· Larger premises would be better for everybody
· I took a taxi to the surgery once and the road surface damaged the taxi taking off an under part of the car. The taxi driver wanted me to pay for the damage which caused me a lot of unnecessary stress and unpleasantness
· The road really needs to be resurfaced
· I drive occasionally and find exiting from the Crescent to the main road very difficult and dangerous
· I do not find it difficult finding a parking space because I always make a very early morning appointment. There is clearly a lack of parking spaces. I have on occasion parked outside residents homes and have got into trouble with the resident
· I find the road very difficult to use with a buggy
· The state of the road outside the surgery is dangerous; I have also fallen over when stepping into a puddle which was much deeper than I anticipated. The deep holes are a serious risk to both cars and patients
· The surgery needs better access and parking
· I have had problems with the residents of Manor Crescent which the reception staff resolved on my behalf
· This surgery needs better parking
· If you have walking or balance difficulties the road surface is very dangerous
· You need to drive very slowly otherwise you could damage your car or another person’s car
